Aleksei Petrovich Tkachev was born in Chugunovka, Bryansk reg. in 1925. Studied at Moscow Intermediate Art School 1939-45; Began exhibiting 1948. Important shows include "All-Union Art Exhibition", Moscow, 1950; "All-Union Art Exhibition", Moscow 1951; All-Union Art Exhibition", Moscow, 1952; "All-Union Art Exhibition", Moscow, 1955; "Soviet Russia", Moscow, 1960. Well-known works include "Launderesses" (1956-57); "Kids" (1958-60); "Between Battles" (1958-60); "Mothers" (1960-61). Taught in creative studios of USSR Academy of Arts, Moscow, 1976-1980s. Became a Soviet Academician. Leadung realist painter of 1950s-60s; created many major works with his brother, Sergei Petrovich Tkachev. His works hang in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum and in most major national museums.

Aleksei and Sergei Tkachev were born in the Chugunovka, Bryansk region in 1922 and 1925. The brothers completed their studies at the Surikov Institute in Moscow. Sergei graduated in 1952 from the studio of Sergei Gerasimov and Aleksei in 1951 from the studio of Dmitri Mochalski. Since
the early 1950's Aleksei and Sergei have worked as a pair, sharing studios in Moscow and in the country. Both have earned the title of "People's Artist of the USSR" and both have been awarded the USSR state prize and the Repin Prize of the Russian Federation. The creativity of the Tkachev
brothers revolves around country life as this is where they took their first steps together and shared their interpretations of the world about them. Their paintings are invariably based on real life situations and are invested with a strong emotive undercurrent. Color is often used to convey a certain mood or message. Their works stand out for their complex treatment of color and for their widely varied compositions. As seen in "Dear Guest" and "Good Morning", they strongly favor narrative pieces of
peasant life. Their paintings hang in numerous museums of the former Soviet Union. Their paintings are sought after by collectors worldwide and can be found in private collections t home and abroad. Recently in Bryansk, Russia
